From Vision to Action: Advancing ACPM’s Strategic Priorities

Let me share our recent update to ACPM’s historical document, which chronicles some of the milestones, accomplishments, and member successes over our 70+ year history, Moments & Momentum. I encourage you to learn about our legacy of leadership and to nurture pride in and commitment to our shared ACPM identity.

Last week, members of our Board of Regents and our Past President’s Council visited Capitol Hill to advocate for Prevention First policies to strengthen the preventive medicine workforce and public health infrastructure, expand eligibilities for and coverage of preventive services, and increase funding for health-related grants and prevention research. Please follow our monthly ACPM Policy Dispatch to learn more about the actions the College is taking to advocate for prevention and reach out to the ACPM Advocacy team, to learn more about how you can ensure our collective voice continues to be heard.

Our 2025 Daniel S. Blumenthal Lecture and Award focused on rural health, celebrating the extraordinary work of this year’s honorees in advancing equity and community well-being. We also concluded our annual ACPM Leadership Retreat (bringing together our Board of Regents, Committee Chairs, ACPM staff and our newly established Past Presidents Council) focused on advancing our mission and shaping our future.

We closed our two-day strategic retreat with renewed purpose and determination to translate our vision into action. I’m pleased to share the key themes and priority areas we approved for advancement in the months ahead:

Financial Health

We are advancing a strong and sustainable future through:

  • Launch of ACPM Advisory, a mission-aligned subsidiary focused on federal health consulting opportunities, and ACPM Search, a new ACPM service dedicated to executive recruitment and placement of members.
  • Continued cost optimization and efficiency initiatives to deliver more value with fewer resources.
  • Strengthening our Prevention Alliance, ensuring collaboration with our corporate partners and executive leaders on mission-aligned initiatives.
  • Establishment of the Past Presidents Council, engaging former leaders for mentorship, strategic counsel and development.
  • Commissioning a Business Development Committee to spearhead new ventures and innovative business strategies that strengthen ACPM’s financial health.
  • Exploration of an ACPM Foundation to support education and research.

We have many new and exciting business initiatives where we need your energy and leadership, so jump in and help build ACPM’s future!

Member Value

Our members remain at the heart of everything we do. We are:

  • Continuing to provide high-impact educational programming, including Preventive Medicine 2026, the AI in Preventive Medicine and Public Health Certificate, and Disaster Preparedness webinars.
  • Expanding communities of practice and special interest groups, strengthening pathways across career stages, and gathering richer data on member needs.
  • Strengthening our Early Career, Resident Physician and Medical Student Sections while commissioning the Membership Committee to focus on mid-career and sector-specific value strategies for our various member constituencies.
  • Launching a strategic communications campaign to showcase the value of prevention, ACPM’s historical impact, and the strength of our membership.

We are also reaffirming our commitment to a strong, consistent voice for evidence-based science and against misinformation in the public arena.

Strategic Directions

We are launching three concurrent strategic initiatives:

  • ACPM Strategic Plan Refresh – Updating ACPM’s strategic plan (last revised in 2016) to reflect new realities in medicine, public health, and policy. The Strategy Committee will lead this process and welcomes member input.
  • ACPM’s Prevention-First Project – A forward-looking initiative to define ACPM’s next decade of advocacy, policy and programmatic priorities. As a complement to the strategic plan, this will serve as a compendium of action plans for the College.
  • ACPM Committee Governance Review – Empowering committees through a thorough review of bylaws and structure by the Governance Committee. The intent is to enhance agility and accountability and greater delegation of authority to our committee leaders.

We are also commissioning a new Strategic Communications Task Force to coordinate outreach and storytelling through podcasts, webinars, social media and other platforms — and we’re exploring an AI and Technology Task Force to help ACPM lead responsibly in integrating technology into both organizational operations and member benefits.

Together, these efforts reflect a College moving forward with unity, clarity and purpose. We are building on our legacy while leading the future of preventive medicine. As always, we welcome and encourage your engagement and leadership. Reach to our ACPM Committee Chairs, our ACPM Board of Regents, and our ACPM staff and get involved! Together, we will continue to strengthen ACPM’s voice, expand our impact, and shape a healthier future.
