(WASHINGTON, D.C.) The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) is calling for the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) vice-chairs to be reinstated, having been dismissed from their appointed duties. Task Force members — selected, reviewed and historically endorsed and appointed by the HHS Secretary — undergo extensive conflict-of-interest examination, both before their appointment and upon introduction of upcoming topics for consideration.
ACPM is concerned that the dismissal of USPSTF members before the end of their term will upend trust in the USPSTF’s actions moving forward, and underscores the necessity of maintaining transparency in both the member selection process and resuming a regular meeting schedule. ACPM was an early pioneer of the USPSTF, we hope to see it continue to provide evidence-based recommendations to prevent disease and promote wellness.
