Year End Reflections and Looking Forward to the Adventures Ahead

Happy holidays to all. As we welcome a new year, let me share what lies ahead for the American College of Preventive Medicine and reflect on the progress we’ve made to date.

2025 was a year marked by both challenge and growing momentum. Across governance, advocacy, education and organizational development, ACPM has continued to evolve. Grounded in our 70+ year legacy (as captured in Moments & Momentum), we are positioning the College for a stronger, more resilient and more impactful future.

Over the past year, ACPM advanced its mission in meaningful and visible ways. We deepened member engagement and leadership development, strengthened our national voice for prevention and evidence-based policy, and laid critical groundwork for long-term financial and organizational health. Our advocacy efforts elevated Prevention First priorities at the federal level. Our educational programs expanded in scope and relevance. Our governance and committee structures continued to mature in ways that support transparency, accountability and member-driven leadership.

Importantly, we took bold steps to invest in ACPM’s future. The launch of ACPM Advisory, our mission-aligned professional services subsidiary, positions the College to lead preventive medicine initiatives in high-impact, real-world settings while strengthening the financial foundation needed to serve our members better for the decades to come.

This year also reaffirmed the strength of ACPM’s community:  From advocacy visits on Capitol Hill, to the Daniel S. Blumenthal Lecture spotlighting rural health and equity, and to the leadership retreat that brought together the Board of Regents, Committee Chairs, staff, and the Past Presidents Council. The revitalization of our Medical Student, Resident Physician, and Early Career Physician sections underscored our shared responsibility to cultivate the next generation of preventive medicine leaders. ACPM demonstrated the strength that comes from engaged, mission-driven members working together and continued to develop strategies to expand our communities of practice and special interest group infrastructure.

Building on our recent update to our 70+ year historical record, we are now preparing to launch an ACPM strategic communications campaign that will amplify the value of prevention, celebrate ACPM’s enduring impact and strengthen our national presence across key stakeholder communities.

As Dr. Tacci noted in his recent update, the College is now turning intentionally toward the future. In the year ahead, we will sharpen our strategic direction, advance mission-aligned approaches to financial sustainability, and expand opportunities for members to lead, connect, and grow. Our specialty’s increased visibility through the NRMP Match, combined with continued advocacy to secure and expand funding for PH/GPM residency programs and preventive medicine education across the continuum, creates meaningful opportunities for growth and influence. These efforts are active, unfolding priorities that will shape ACPM’s next chapter.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The new year will open with several important milestones and opportunities for engagement:

  • 2025 Annual Report (mid-January): We will release ACPM’s 2025 Annual Report, offering a comprehensive reflection on our accomplishments, impact, and progress. I encourage you to review it as a testament to our collective work and shared purpose and as a complement to Moments & Momentum (covering our legacy since our founding).
  • ACPM Strategic Plan Refresh: The Strategy Committee is leading an update to ACPM’s strategic plan to reflect the realities of today’s healthcare landscape, the values and core beliefs of our membership, and the imperatives of a stronger, more influential College. Your ideas and input are welcome as we proceed.
  • Policy Advocacy and Prevention-First Leadership: ACPM will continue to champion policies that strengthen the preventive medicine workforce, expand access to preventive medicine services, and increase investment in prevention research and public health infrastructure. Advocacy remains at the heart of who we are.
  • ACPM Advisory: We gained access to strategic contract vehicles in our target market and built essential infrastructure to support future operations. The next phase will focus on engaging our senior advisors, subject matter experts, and project staff among our ACPM membership. This is an opportunity to shape ACPM’s impact in new and meaningful ways.
  • Awards and Scholarships: Nominations close on January 16. These honors recognize excellence, service, and leadership within our community and support the next generation of preventive medicine leaders. I encourage you to submit nominations and help us celebrate those advancing our field.
  • Preventive Medicine 2026 in Baltimore: Our Annual Meeting will once again bring the ACPM community together for learning, connection, and inspiration. With expanded CME, professional development, and networking opportunities, PM2026 promises to be a defining moment of the year. I encourage you to begin making plans to attend.

Together, these actions reflect a College moving forward with clarity, confidence, and conviction. On a personal level, I am happy to see 2025 behind us and expect a brighter year ahead. We thank you for your continued commitment to ACPM and to the vital work we share. I wish you and your loved ones a safe, healthy and peaceful holiday season, and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in 2026. Thank you.
