(Washington, D.C.) The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) is deeply concerned that recent changes in immunization messaging may intensify vaccine hesitancy and increase the risk of preventable illness, injury and death. Rejecting strong scientific evidence simply because it is not an absolute certainty is not caution – extensive, consistent and credible data continue to demonstrate no link between vaccines and autism.
Representing medical doctors certified and dedicated to disease prevention and health promotion, ACPM is confident in the safety and effectiveness of vaccines that undergo rigorous scientific evaluation and regulatory review. These vaccines have eradicated or drastically reduced the burden of once-devastating diseases including polio, measles and more. ACPM urges families, especially those with young children, older adults or medically vulnerable members, to speak with their trusted physicians to ensure they are best protecting themselves, their loved ones and their communities.
