(WASHINGTON, D.C.) The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) celebrates the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) recent investment in two Preventive Medicine residency programs through the Rural Residency Planning and Development (RRPD) program. With fewer than 40 active Public Health and General Preventive Medicine residency programs nationwide, building programs to produce experts in the ABMS-recognized specialty of Preventive Medicine is a necessary step to center prevention as a cornerstone of healthcare.
“Prevention extends far beyond hospital walls,” stated ACPM President Dr. Jill Waalen. “Training the next generation of physicians to embrace a preventive care mindset and address the unique challenges faced by rural populations will bring access to quality care for all individuals, regardless of their geographic location.”
ACPM commends HRSA for its dedication to fostering a physician workforce that places a strong emphasis on preventive medicine and looks forward to the positive outcomes resulting from these investments in rural residency programs.
