Day Two of Preventive Medicine 2025 made clear that our theme of “Moving the Needle for Preventive Medicine and Public Health” is more applicable than ever. We heard stories of systems change, overcoming challenges through practical public health interventions and building infrastructure for a more resilient preventive medicine workforce. Topics ranged from artificial intelligence to whole health, from clinical innovations to community practice.
The New Member Orientation welcomed physicians to the College with a presentation on the myriad opportunities for professional growth and development at members’ disposal. If you’re new to the specialty, be sure to join one of the newly relaunched Sections for monthly virtual meetings to connect with your peers. Email membership@acpm.org to learn more:

The future of the College is certainly bright! Throughout the day, cutting-edge research was on display in the poster hall. It was exciting to see so many attendees having fun with the “Data Detective” challenge while visiting the posters!

The first plenary session of the day, “The Story of Tobacco Cessation in the U.S.”, traced decades of policy, advocacy and clinical practice that changed the trajectory of a public health through meaningful research and action. The panel brought together experts of the tobacco cessation movement, sharing lessons on program development, media and youth outreach and navigating the tobacco industry’s evolving tactics. Panelists offered sweeping views of systems-level changes and cross-sector collaborations that have been fostered through years of collective public health practice.
Throughout the day, attendees explored both foundational and innovative topics in the field. The specialty workshop, “Architecting AI Leadership,” explored how artificial intelligence is not just a tool — but a transformative force in how we deliver prevention, predict risk and build meaningful population health models to impact communities and patients.

The afternoon session, “Patients, Policy & Planetary Health,” framed preventive medicine’s role in climate science and resilience as essential not only for the U.S. public health system, but also for global health infrastructure. Panelists made clear the clinical costs of climate change, highlighting that barriers in access to infrastructure are detrimental to population health, as well as the vital role that health professionals must play in environmental leadership now.
I hope you have explored beautiful Bellevue and Seattle and enjoyed all the cities have to offer. Looking for dining recommendations from a local? They’re available in the conference app!
We’ve walked many steps, heard many informative presentations, and became a science sleuth in the poster hall and we’re only halfway there!
