A Message from ACPM’s Incoming President

Jill Waalen, MD, MS, MPH, FACPM
ACPM Secretary and Incoming President

Dear Fellow ACPM Members:

As we look forward to gathering in Baltimore and moving into the coming year, your input and involvement is needed now more than ever! During his time in ACPM leadership, including a shortened term as President, Dr. Suh and the Board have created momentum for the College in critical areas (see ACPM Newsletter, April 9). In being selected by the Board to fill out the remaining year of his term, I am committed to continuing that momentum.

Prevention is having a moment (finally). Our training in the specialty of Preventive Medicine makes us uniquely equipped to meet that moment. In the coming year, you will be called on to apply your own skills and expertise to keep the momentum going.

Highlighting just two of the important initiatives where your involvement will be key:

Prevention First: A soon-to-be launched comprehensive framework for putting Prevention first in all areas of healthcare. The expertise of members from all areas of Preventive Medicine is needed to get this document into the hands of the right decision-makers as well as to continue to shape it as a living blueprint.

ACPM Advisory and ACPM Executive Search: These ventures offer other avenues for expanding Preventive Medicine’s influence by responding to the needs of government entities and other organizations for individuals and teams with specific Preventive Medicine-related skills and expertise.

While pursuing these and other new strategies, we continue our commitment to strengthening the core of ACPM – celebrating the breadth and diversity of our specialty joined by a common goal of protecting and promoting the health of Americans and the world.

As we talk more about these and other initiatives at the Annual meeting and work to actualize them, I ask that you consider how you can contribute and be part of ACPM’s bench of talent, ready to be called into the game—so together we can meet this moment.

See you in Baltimore,

Jill
