(WASHINGTON, DC) The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) published a comprehensive set of recommendations to the incoming Trump-Vance Administration, as well as the 119th Congress, urging them to prioritize disease prevention and invest in public health. Facing a chronic disease crisis, ACPM is determined to encourage and collaborate with the administration and Congress to ensure evidence-supported, science-based public health policy and decision-making is implemented to protect the health of our Nation.

"Preventable disease continues to account for hundreds of thousands of American lives and countless resources lost to chronic disease," said Dr. Mirza Rahman, president of ACPM. "Prioritizing disease prevention and investing in evidence-based, peer-reviewed public health interventions and infrastructure will bolster our health system and reduce the burden of preventable diseases on Americans and the front-line health workers that serve the public."

ACPM’s recommendations encompass a wide range of areas, including supporting primary prevention measures, lifestyle medicine, improved nutritional access, reducing substance-use disorder and incentives to improve wellness. They emphasize the importance of a comprehensive approach addressing non-medical drivers of health and providing access to rural and underserved communities that suffer from preventable diseases at disproportionately higher rates. ACPM also highlights the need for increased funding for preventive medicine training and workforce development, addressing the significant shortage of board-certified preventive medicine physicians.

ACPM will engage the administration, the 119th Congress and other stakeholders to apply the recommendations into actionable policies and initiatives. Healthier futures for all Americans are possible through collaboration and expertise from preventive medicine physicians.
