Little did I know, while sitting in the audience at PM2024 in April and listening to Dean Ornish share his research and finding inspiration in his evidence-based perspectives on lifestyle medicine and chronic disease, that I would come across more of his inspiring words when thinking about ACPM’s new online community, Pulse!

As Dr. Ornish declared, “The need for connection and community is primal, as fundamental as the need for air, water, and food.” And, I have to agree! Formalizing the concept of community can be traced back to the 1700’s when the first U.S. association/professional society was established. However, the feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common interests, beliefs, attitudes and goals is timeless and innate.

You find this sense of community when you connect with your peers at an ACPM annual conference. You find it when you carve out time to participate in a virtual Sipping Session or Career Conversation and dive into a topic. You find it when you network with colleagues during committee meetings. And now, you can find it year-round on ACPM’s Pulse.

This new online forum is exclusive for members and provides a platform for collaboration and connection. So, what does that mean? It means you can easily tap into your full network of ACPM peers … to engage in discussions, seek advice, share an article for reaction, mentor an early career physician, ask a question, or simply network. While we look forward to seeing you in Seattle, May 4-8, for PM2025, know you can connect with your fellow ACPM members throughout the year.

By using your ACPM log in, you can access a number of online communities. For launch, the platform hosts a Member Hub for general member engagement and a community for each of the recently launched Special Interest Groups (Global Health, Pharmaceutical Medicine, AI and Digital Health), Sections (Medical Student, Resident Physician, Early Career), ACPM Ambassadors and PMR Directors. In addition, committees will be using Pulse to facilitate their work and collaboration. In the next few weeks, we also will launch a community for all things PM2025.

As its namesake implies, ACPM Pulse is a resource to help you thrive in your career and in meeting your professional aspirations! We invite you to visit Pulse and get started building your connections and creating the community and engagement to meet that “primal, fundamental need.”
