ACPM Policy Affairs



ACPM develops and advocates for public and practice policies consistent with scientific principles of the discipline of preventive medicine. ACPM carries out its policy activities by:
  • Analyzing and responding to legislation, regulation, and policy related to preventive medicine 
  • Developing ACPM policy statements and position papers
  • Educating policy makers about preventive medicine and public health issues
  • Tapping preventive medicine physicians to serve on federal advisory committees and panels
  • Developing grassroots strategy to mobilize members into action

Important policy issues for the College include: 1) bioterrorism preparedness and response; 2) financing for preventive medicine residency training; 3) tobacco prevention and control; 4) coverage of preventive health services; 5) federal support for prevention programs; 6) promotion of healthy lifestyles; 7) improving patient safety
