FDA AUTHORITY OVER TOBACCO
BECOMES REALITY WITH HISTORIC SIGNING
With
a stroke of the pen President Obama made history today, giving the Food and Drug
Administration sweeping regulatory authority over tobacco. By signing the Family
Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, the President consummated an
important milestone toward the goal of significantly reducing, and eventually
eliminating, the death and disease caused by tobacco. The new law represents the
strongest action taken to date to reduce tobacco use, the leading cause of
preventable death.

PRESIDENT OBAMA ADDRESSES
AMA HOUSE OF DELEGATES
President Barack Obama addressed members of the AMA House of Delegates (HoD)
during their annual meeting in Chicago, where he pitched his health reform
plan. Present in the audience were ACPM delegate Jim Tacci and ACPM
alternate-delegate Rob Gilchick.
