Mary Applegate, MD, MPH, FACPM
Northeast Regent

Dr. Mary Applegate is the Interim Dean at the University at Albany School of Public Health – on leave from her long-time position as a public health physician at the New York State Department of Health.  For most of the past 15 years, she served as medical director for the Bureau of Women’s Health, overseeing programs in maternal & infant health, breastfeeding promotion, family planning, osteoporosis prevention, and sexual assault.  In addition, she is a long-time faculty member in the School of Public Health’s Department of Health Policy, Management, & Behavior, and she directs the New York State Preventive Medicine Residency Program, jointly sponsored by the University at Albany and the New York State Department of Health. 

At the national level, she chaired the ACPM/ATPM Council of Preventive Medicine Residency Directors and participated in the Preventive Medicine Leadership Forum from 2002 through 2006.  She now serves as the Northeast Regent on the American College of Preventive Medicine’s Board of Regents. 

Dr. Applegate holds a BA in biochemistry from Smith College, an MD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and an MPH in epidemiology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  She completed preventive medicine residency training at the New York State Department of Health and is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
